Teeth Whitening

Who doesn’t love a bright white smile? The good news is there are a variety of products and procedures available to help you improve and get the smile you always wanted! Here are the two most common methods.

Professional In-Office Whitening

This procedure is often referred to as chairside bleaching and takes about an hour to complete. The dentist will first apply either a protective gel to your gums, or place a rubber shield to protect the oral soft tissues around your teeth. Then, a bleaching agent is applied directly on the teeth. This is kept on your teeth for a short period of time before it is removed. This process is then repeated a few cycles and you’re done! Our office uses Boost Opalescent whitening technology. This whitening system has an abundant amount of flouride that helps reduce sensitivity.

Take-Home Whitening Kit

The take-home system is a more lengthy teeth whitening process. This kit will need to be prepared by your dentist. To prepare the kit, your dentist starts with making you a custom whitening tray that fits comfortably in your mouth. Along with your tray, you will also be given whitening gel packs. These gel packs are designed to allow easy application. You will need to carefully place the gel in your whitening tray and then wear them as recommended by your dentist. Usage amount and frequency will vary for each patient. Although it takes longer to achieve your desired results, take home kits can be effective if used as recommended.

How Do I Know Which Method Is Right For Me

Choosing the right option can be a difficult task. With so many products and options available, its easy to choose one that might not work well for you. We recommend the first place to start is to speak to your dentist and get all your questions answered. At Mint Dental OC, your dentist will determine whether you are a good candidate for whitening and which method is right for you. Although whiteners are very effective they may not always correct all types of discoloration.
