We are excited to announce the newest addition to our office, the CEREC machine! With our promise to provide excellent patient care through advanced, cutting edge technology, this CEREC machine is the very definition of modern dentistry. We will be able to provide full digitally computer assisted design (or CAD) of most restorative enhancements. And best of all, with this technology, we will be able to complete these restorations in a single visit! With computer assisted design, your restorative elements are more accurate and will fit more comfortably in your mouth.
Sounds complicated? Not even close. The process of making your restorative units is quite simple and actually takes less time compared to the traditional method, which means you’ll be in and out of our office before you know it!
The entire process takes 4 simple steps.
1. Remove Decay Areas
Once seated, the doctor will remove the areas of defective restoration or decay on the tooth. This is carefully done to avoid removing any portions of healthy tooth structure.
2. Create 3-D Model of Tooth
This is done using our specialized tooth scanner, which scans all surfaces of the tooth. The image is automatically uploaded into our CEREC computer and from there, slight design adjustments are made. The final design is a fully customized restoration unit that will fit perfectly on your tooth.
3. Mill Restoration Unit
Once the design is completed, the file is sent to our in-house Milling Unit and will begin to create or “mill” your custom fit all porcelain restoration piece. The milling time takes on average of 15 minutes depending on the type of restoration.
4. Place Unit
Once the unit is milled, the doctor will carefully place it and we’re all done!
There are many advantages of using porcelain material. Cosmetically, it is beautiful and mimics your natural teeth. Functionally, porcelain is a very stable material, which means you’re not likely to experience post-op sensitivity or discomfort. Economically, you’ll save more money because they last much longer than regular composite materials.
If you’re feeling any discomfort in your tooth, give our office a call! We might be able to fix it on your first visit!
